Our latest development project is the design of an innovative,
architecturally striking educational, conference and seed production complex at the National Wildflower Centre. With funding of £100,000 provided by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), we launched a RIBA-run architectural design competition. Visit the RIBA website for details of the design brief and competition.

This project provides a unique opportunity to create an outstanding gateway site to the Liverpool City Region and a Science and Maths learning facility to inspire and encourage people to visit the Centre to learn about the relationships between nature, mathematics and physics. It will significantly enhance the visitor experience of the National Wildflower Centre and provide a centre of excellence, and operational hub for creative conservation, learning and innovation. A budget of £5m will need to be raised to deliver the new building.

National Wildflower Centre secures £200,000 for 'Inspire'
Update: November 2009
The Centre has secured £200,000 of funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) towards its plan to build a new educational, conference and seed production complex. The scheme, designed by Manchester-based Ian Simpson Architects, faced a public consultation meeting on 20 November before a planning application can be submitted.

Richard Tracey, head of environmental quality, NWDA said: "The aspiration to produce a new educational and visitor facility that will engage young people in exploring mathematics and science through wildflowers is an admirable and exciting one which has a potentially strong resonance with the agency's environmental quality and skills agenda." more

RIBA international open design competition - update
Working with the National Wildflower Centre, Landlife completed shortlisting for a RIBA international open design competition for a new conference and education centre, inspired by natural links to maths and physics. An incredible 296 registrations and 144 submissions were made, the second most number of entries for this type of competition that RIBA has ever received. By invitation, the shortlisted designs were showcased in Liverpool and London in February and the winning design announced on March 9th.
