2.0 Site
description
The site consists of two fields, split by Back Lane which runs from Thornton
to Lunt. About half of both fields were planted with young trees in 2003,
and these had grown considerably by the end of 2005. The larger field has
a pond, surrounded by mature trees, and there is a small pond with reeds in
the smaller field.
3.0 Field Methods
3.1 Wintering birds
Field methods used were in line with BTO winter bird surveys. Five timed visits
of two hours were made to the site during the period. Birds were recorded
using the fields (feeding, resting or roosting), but not when they were obviously
just flying over (as in the case of most gulls).
Birds were also recorded using adjacent fields. An important point to note
here is that the adjacent fields cover a much larger area than the Landlife
fields, and that birds do move between the two.

Birds recorded during the survey
Data is shown in a table for each species, from the Landlife fields and the
adjacent fields. This is the first winter bird survey at Lunt, and as might
be expected several species were recorded for the first time at the site.
These are flagged by a "Y" in the final column.
The following
species were recorded during the survey:
