The pale purple flowers can be found throughout Britain on dry grasslands such as heaths, dunes and down land. A perennial, it can form large mats which attract numerous bumblebees. It has lowsprawling stems, a distinctive aroma and can be used in cooking in the same way you would use cultivated Thyme.
